Five Days on Mariner of the Seas: A Quick Getaway to Cozumel
Sometimes you do not need a long vacation to feel completely refreshed—you just need sunshine, ocean views, good company, and a few days where the biggest decision is whether to spend the afternoon by the pool or grab another frozen drink. Our 5-day, 4-night cruise aboard Royal Caribbean’s Mariner of the Seas was exactly that kind of escape.
Sailing from Galveston to Cozumel, Mexico, this trip gave us the perfect mix of cruise-ship fun, tropical adventure, and a little time to simply slow down together - without the kiddos. Joshua and I started our adventure a day early with a quick stay at the Lotus Galveston. This adorable, adults-only bed and breakfast was quiet and cozy - exactly what we needed to start off on the right foot.
We woke up early and set off to get some good coffee at Groovy Grind Coffee (thank you TikTok) and start the boarding process at the Royal Caribbean terminal.
Setting Sail from Galveston
There is something special about embarkation day. The anticipation starts building before you even step onboard, but seeing Mariner of the Seas in person made it feel official: we were really leaving everyday life behind for a few days.
The ship was full of energy from the start, with the pool deck, waterslides, ocean views, and that unmistakable first-day excitement all around us. We grabbed our sail-away photos, put on our matching cruise shirts, and soaked in the fact that our only plans for the next few days involved relaxation and adventure.
Life Onboard Mariner of the Seas
One of the best parts of a shorter cruise is how quickly you settle into vacation mode. Mariner of the Seas made it easy to fill our sea days with as much—or as little—as we wanted.
The ship has that classic Royal Caribbean feeling: lively public spaces, plenty of spots to sit and watch the water, entertainment throughout the day, and lots happening on the pool deck. Of course, the waterslides were hard to miss, and the sunshine made the entire ship feel like a floating resort.
We enjoyed getting dressed up for the evenings, exploring the ship together, and taking a break from normal routines. One night, we stopped for photos on the grand staircase—a simple little moment that ended up being one of my favorite memories from the trip.
Cruises are such a fun reminder that you do not have to over-plan every second. You can wake up slowly, wander around with no real destination, eat when you are hungry, watch the ocean from a lounge chair, and still end the day feeling like you made the most of it.
A Day in Cozumel
Our port day in Cozumel brought all the colorful, tropical energy we were hoping for. Between the bright blue water, boats in the marina, palm trees, and warm sunshine, it was the kind of destination that immediately makes you want to take photos.
We spent time out on the water, and it was such a fun experience to be surrounded by that incredible Caribbean-blue ocean. There is nothing quite like getting away from the ship for a bit, feeling the sea breeze, and seeing the island from the water.
Cozumel was colorful in every sense of the word. We found one of the most fun murals that said, “I ❤️ Cozumel,” complete with huge tropical wings behind it. It was impossible to walk by without stopping for a picture.
The island had so much charm—from the colorful street art and local spots to the lighthouse views and waterfront scenery. Even just walking around and taking it all in felt like part of the experience.
My Favorite Moments
Looking back, the big moments were amazing—but it is always the little things that stay with me most:
Seeing the ship and knowing vacation had officially started
Wearing matching cruise shirts and taking embarkation-day photos
Getting dressed up for dinner and photos onboard
Spending time on the water in El Cielo- HELLLOOO STARFISH!!
Laughing together, taking way too many pictures, and having nowhere else to be
Watching the ocean and remembering how good it feels to unplug for a few days
Final Thoughts
Our 5-day, 4-night cruise on Mariner of the Seas was the perfect quick getaway. It gave us a chance to enjoy time together, experience Cozumel, and take a real break from the day-to-day routine without needing a full week away.
If you are looking for a fun cruise from Galveston with a tropical port stop, plenty to do onboard, and a great balance of adventure and relaxation, Mariner of the Seas is absolutely worth considering. We came home with sun-kissed skin, full camera rolls, and the kind of memories that make you want to start planning the next cruise immediately.
